Following are some significantly useful natural remedies for treating prostate cancer at home

Ginger Ginger is thought of as a miracle natural cure for prostate cancer. Recently, the British Journal of Nutrition published an American study which showed evidence that extract of ginger killed the prostate cancer cells. On the other hand, it boosted the health of the normal prostate cells diminishing cell death. In 8 weeks, the extract had slashed the growth of tumor in the prostate gland by half. According to the researchers, if 100 grams of fresh ginger is eaten by the affected person every day, it will have the same results. Ginger is a potent chemopreventive agent with anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative and antioxidant properties. Ginger extract has growth-inhibitory effects on cancer cells which interrupt the progression of the cell cycle, modulating apoptosis. Besides, ginger, when taken orally, is also exceedingly helpful in relieving nausea or vomiting resulting from chemotherapy. Ginger extract for cancer is often sold in herbal medicine stores. Besides, you can drink the fresh juice of raw ginger mixed with honey for controlling prostate cancer.

Age The Younger People Survive

People above the age of 55 are very unlikely to survive prostate cancer. Only 7% of diagnosed prostrate cancer die within the first five years. Studies show that the risk of getting prostate cancer increases with age, and the speed at which cancer spreads grows exponentially too. People younger than the age of 40 rarely contract prostate cancer, and when they do, almost all of them are cured easily.

Your healthcare provider will review your medical history, ask you questions and perform a physical examination. Part of the physical exam involves a digital rectal exam.

During a digital rectal exam, your healthcare provider will carefully insert their gloved digit into your rectum. Theyll feel the edges and surface of your prostate, estimate the size of your prostate and detect any hard areas that could be cancer.

Your healthcare provider may also order:

  • A survey to evaluate the severity of your symptoms.
  • A urine flow test to measure the speed of your pee stream.
  • A study to detect how much pee remains in your bladder after youve finished peeing.
  • A cystoscopy to look into your bladder.

What Treatments Are Available

Remission and Cure After Relapse Prostate Cancer | Mark Scholz, MD | PCRI

If you have advanced prostate cancer, treatment wont cure your cancer. But it can help keep it under control and manage any symptoms.

If youve just been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, you may be offered the following treatments:

Research has found that having radiotherapy together with one of the main treatments listed above can help some men with advanced prostate cancer to live longer. But radiotherapy isnt suitable for all men with advanced prostate cancer.

If you live in Scotland, you may also be offered a type of hormone therapy called abiraterone acetate together with standard hormone therapy. In the rest of the UK, abiraterone is currently only given to men with advanced prostate cancer that has stopped responding to other types of hormone therapy. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence is currently deciding whether to make it available for men who have just been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer.

Before you start treatment

Before you start any treatment, make sure you have all the information you need. Its important to think about how you would cope with the possible side effects. Speak to your doctor or nurse about this.

It can help to write down any questions you want to ask at your next appointment. It may also help to take someone with you, such as your partner, a family member or friend.

Hormone Therapy With Radiation

Prostate cancer cells need testosterone to grow. Hormone therapy aims to drastically lower testosterone levels to slow the cancer√Ęs progression. Although it does not cure the cancer on its own, hormone therapy improves the effectiveness of radiation for high-risk disease and is often recommended in conjunction with radiation therapy for men with intermediate- or high-risk localized disease. However, hormone therapy may have significant side effects. These include loss of libido , hot flashes , changes in mood or memory, loss of bone and muscle density, body fat gain, and adverse effects on sugar or cholesterol metabolism. When offered as short-term therapy in conjunction with radiation, it is often well tolerated. How long a patient should receive hormone therapy remains controversial and depends on how aggressive his cancer is.

Fighting Prostate Cancer With Radiation

The other primary curative treatment for prostate cancer is radiation, administered via external-beam radiation therapy or brachytherapy. Studies suggest that both radiation modalities and surgery are equally effective at eradicating prostate cancer. And, advances in radiation therapies have made them more convenient for patients.

EBRT uses powerful x-rays to attack prostate cancer. Traditional prostate cancer EBRT required patients to visit a treatment facility five days a week for about two months. Today, some centers are using hypofractionated radiation regimens, which reduce the duration of treatment to as little as a week-and-a-half.

Newer methods of EBRT help specialists target the cancerous prostate tissue more precisely with higher radiation doses while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues, such as the rectum. Nevertheless, rectal side effectssuch as diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and painful or difficult bowel movementscan occur. A newer technology, SpaceOAR, which uses an injectable hydrogel to push the rectum away from the prostate, can help reduce these side effects.

Medical advances continue to give more clarity to the question Can prostate cancer be cured? In the meantime, men can take lifestyle steps to reduce their risk. For advice, visit our experts post How to Avoid Prostate Cancer.

After Prostate Cancer Has Been Diagnosed Tests Are Done To Find Out If Cancer Cells Have Spread Within The Prostate Or To Other Parts Of The Body

Lots of men will certainly encounter a prostate issue at some time in ...

The process used to find out if cancer has spread within theprostate or to other parts of the body is called staging. The information gathered from the staging process determines the stage of the disease. It is important to know the stage in order to plan treatment. The results of the tests used to diagnoseprostate cancer are often also used to stage the disease. In prostate cancer, staging tests may not be done unless the patient has symptoms or signs that the cancer has spread, such as bone pain, a high PSA level, or a high Gleason score.

The following tests and procedures also may be used in the staging process:

Stage Ii Of Prostate Cancer:

In this stage, the cancer has spread within the prostate involving one or both the lobes of the prostate. These cancers do not spread beyond the prostate to nearby lymph nodes or other organs. Stage II of prostate cancer is broadly categorized into three further stages:

Stage IIA:

Here, the cancer has spread upto one complete lobe of the prostate. The Gleason score of these cancer is 6 or less than 6 and PSA levels are between 10 and 20.

When the cancer is found during biopsies, and not through general diagnostic tests, it is staged as cT1, N0, M0 Grade Group 1.

When the cancer can be found to be confined to one half of a lobe of the prostate, through screening or physical examinations and has not metastasized, it is staged as cT2a or pT2, N0, M0, Grade Group 1.

If the cancer is contained in more than half of one lobe of the prostate, but has not spread, it is staged as cT2a or pT2, N0, M0, Grade Group 1.

Stage IIB:

In this stage, the cancer has not spread beyond the prostate, but is contained in more than one lobe of the prostate, with a Gleason score of 7 and PSA levels up to 20. It is staged as T1 or T2, N0, M0, Grade Group 2.

Stage IIC:

This stage of stage II cancer is staged as T1 or T2, N0, M0, Grade Group 3 or 4 with a Gleason score of 7 or 8 and PSA levels less than 20. They are spread within the prostate, with the cancer contained in both the lobes.

How Prostate Cancer Is Treated

In cancer care, different types of doctorsincluding medical oncologists, surgeons, and radiation oncologistsoften work together to create an overall treatment plan that may combine different types of treatments to treat the cancer. This is called a multidisciplinary team. Cancer care teams include a variety of other health care professionals, such as palliative care experts, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, oncology nurses, social workers, pharmacists, counselors, dietitians, physical therapists, and others.

The common types of treatments used for prostate cancer are described below. Your care plan may also include treatment for symptoms and side effects, an important part of cancer care.

Treatment options and recommendations depend on several factors, including the type and stage of cancer, possible side effects, and the patients preferences and overall health.

Cancer treatment can affect older adults in different ways. More information on the specific effects of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy on older patients can be found another section of this website.

Because most prostate cancers are found in the early stages when they are growing slowly, you usually do not have to rush to make treatment decisions. During this time, it is important to talk with your doctor about the risks and benefits of all your treatment options and when treatment should begin. This discussion should also address the current state of the cancer:

Should Men At Elevated Risk Be Screened More Aggressively

It might sound logical to screen high-risk men earlier or urge men to adopt a healthy lifestyle to lower their risk for prostate cancer, but these areas have not been studied sufficiently. Therefore, physician organizations recommend more research and individualizing decisions about whether to get screened. Meanwhile, some leading organizations have issued recommendations, including:

  • The American Urological Association The AUA recommends individualizing decision-making for men younger than age 55 who are high risk because they are African-American or have a positive family history.
  • The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force The USPSTF largely agrees with AUAs position and its 2018 recommendations are based on AUAs evidence review.
  • The American Cancer Society The ACS takes this a step further, urging discussion about screening begin earlier for African-American men and men with first-degree relatives who have had prostate cancer.

How Do You Shrink An Enlarged Prostate And Lower Psa Naturally

One way to shrink an enlarged prostate is through medication, but if you are not ready to take prescription medication, there are some more natural approaches that you can explore, like changes to your diet and exercise routine.

A 2013 review showed that many males with BPH also had vitamin D deficiency. The review also discusses additional studies that focused on increasing vitamin D intake which showed promising results in reducing BPH. Either through supplements or vitamin D-rich foods, increasing vitamin D in your diet may cause a reduction in BPH symptoms.

Obesity may also play a role in the severity of BPH symptoms. Positive changes to your diet may also help with BPH, particularly with the inclusion of more fruits and vegetables like tomatoes that can also lower the risk of developing prostate cancer and bell peppers that are rich in vitamin C.
