It Increases Chemo And Radiosensitivity
Apart from exerting the anti-cancer effect, curcumin even sensitizes cancer cell to conventional cancer therapy.

Curcumin is found to increase the sensitivity of various cancers such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer etc, to various chemotherapeutic drugs.
Similarly, curcumin overcomes radioresistance by acting on various targets that control cell growth and development.

This Could Be The Greatest Spice For Mens Health
I eat or drink turmeric in some form every day – on my oats, in my smoothies, in my tea, on my eggs, and in my curries: basically, I sprinkle it on nearly everything I eat.
Why do I like it so much? Turmeric, and its well-known ingredient curcumin has potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and has been studied for a wide variety of healing properties, most of which greatly benefit mens health. Here are a few of them:
Turmeric Reduces Inflammation.
Both acute and chronic inflammation are the cause of many health problems – one of the most common of which is arthritis and associated joint pain two ailments I want to avoid as I age.
Curcumin extracts have been shown to reduce the pain and improve function in knee osteoarthritis with an efficiency equivalent to ibuprofen, but with fewer gastrointestinal side effects. Combining curcumin and Boswellia serrata also has been shown to be more effective than the COX-2 inhibitor celecoxib in the treatment of osteoarthritis.
Turmeric Helps Men With Their Prostate Health.
Turmeric is also one of the best natural remedies for relieving the symptoms of an enlarged prostate and helping to reduce urinary symptoms in men as they age. This spice has been shown to provide several important benefits for prostate health, including reducing prostate size, fighting inflammation associated with prostatitis, and helping to manage pelvic pain. Turmeric also could have a role in preventing prostate cancer.
It Aids Memory.
Research Into Curcumin As A Cancer Treatment
Several studies have looked into whether curcumin could be a cancer treatment. These have had some promising results.
One of these in 2013 was an international laboratory study on bowel cancer cells. It looked at the effects of combined treatment with curcumin and chemotherapy. The researchers concluded that the combined treatment might be better than chemotherapy alone.
A problem highlighted by a number of review studies is that curcumin does not get absorbed easily. This makes it work less well as a treatment. Researchers are looking at ways of overcoming this problem.
We need more clinical trials in humans before we know how well it works as a treatment for cancer.

Rationale For The Ingredients Of This Interventional Food Supplement
Pomegranate, rich in ellagic acid, has been shown in in vitro studies to inhibit proliferation, markers of migration, induce apoptosis and cell adhesion in breast and prostate cancer cell lines. In humans, a phase II study reported a prolongation of PSA doubling following pomegranate juice consumption and markers of oxidative stress improved. A further phase II study, gave men pomegranate seed extract with similar effects. Its influence was not felt to be via hormonal route as it affected both androgen-sensitive and -resistant human prostate cancer cells, and one of the clinical studies showed no change in testosterone levels following regular intake., , , , ,
Green tea, rich in epigallocatechin gallate, has been shown to block ornithine decarboxylase, an enzyme which signals cells to proliferate faster and bypass apoptosis., , It has also been reported to reduce several growth factors which promote breast and prostate cancer cell line growth, block de-differentiation and angiogenesis. Men given an extract of tea illustrated a significant reduction in the levels of several growth factors that promote cancer, as well as a beneficial effect on PSA.
Broccoli, rich in isothiocyanate and its metabolite sulphoraphane, has been shown to inhibit growth and promote apoptosis in cancer cells. In humans, a study found that regular broccoli intake downregulated cancer genes linked to cancer promotion and up-regulated genes link to cancer suppression., , ,
Turmeric Could Help You Cope With Arthritis Pain
There are many different types of arthritis, and all of these diseases are known to cause painful symptoms in the patient.
The particular ways that Curcumin interacts with the human body also makes it an ideal candidate for helping to relieve the symptoms experienced by patients who had been diagnosed with arthritis.
Researchers at the Nirmala Medical Centre in India compared the effects of curcumin supplements to a popular pharmaceutical drug used to treat arthritis6. All patients in the study had been diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis. There were three groups of patients, divided as follow:
- Group 1: 500mg of Curcumin per day
- Group 2: 50mg of Diclofenac sodium per day
- Group 3: 500mg of Curcumin + 50mg of Diclofenac sodium per day
To the surprise of the researchers, those patients who only took the supplement that contained Curcumin had the most significant reduction in their pain and inflammation symptoms.
This led to the conclusion that Curcumin may be a highly effective option for treating these conditions and the compound does not cause some of the serious side-effects that have been associated with pharmaceutical interventions like Diclofenac sodium.

How Turmeric May Work
The popular herbal medicine contains the antioxidant curcumin, a curcuminoid that is responsible for turmerics yellow color and prevents inflammation by blocking molecules that cause it. Although the medicinal use of turmeric is not fully understood, the spice is commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat a variety of illnesses.
Curcumin, the primary active ingredient in turmeric, protects the body in two ways:;
- Enhancing the activity of an important detoxifying enzyme
- Neutralizing molecules that cause DNA damage, such as free radicals
Studies of turmeric in rats have shown the spice to be vital in the prevention of kidney damage from toxins. Additional studies have shown that it may also have protective effects against colon, stomach, and skin cancer by stopping the replication of tumor cells in the lab. The effect in the human body is still being studied.;
Although research on turmeric as an anti-cancer supplement has been promising, especially in preventing and limiting the spread of prostate cancer, recent experiments suggest that it may interfere with the activity of some chemotherapy drugs.
Therefore, questions remain about its overall efficacy and clinical relevance as an adjunct to traditional cancer treatments.
