So, lets review what I have learned thus far about marijuana or some of its derivatives from my 25+ years of experience and reviewing much of the literature:

1. Personally, if you are healthy I think the risks of marijuana outweigh the benefits unless, of course, you win the lottery and just want to try it one time to celebrate the fact that you no longer have to ever listen to your boss or some of your annoying coworkers ever again . Marijuana is NOT proven to be heart healthy and in fact could be heart unhealthy, and the smoke does not make the lung tissue happy even though you could feel temporarily happy. Both cigarette smoke and marijuana can contain cancer-causing compounds such as nitrosamines, phenol, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, vinyl chlorides, blah blah blah. Thus, both types of smoke can contain particulate matter and carcinogens.

2. The two 1985 FDA approved THC-like drugs should be discussed more often as an option for nausea and vomiting prevention in cancer chemotherapy treatment, and to help encourage weight gain and appetite stimulation in cancer patients. Interestingly, there is even some evidence of dronabinol improving dysgeusia the taste of food and appetite in one small study . Interestingly, zinc supplements are arguably first line evidence for dysgeusia and have their own potential for side effects . Taste changes are not uncommon with chemotherapy and other drugs.

Conventional Medicine Is Not A Cure

What makes prostate cancer a serious concern? Its prevalent in men once they hit 40.

Sadly, conventional medicine does not hold an absolute cure. Medications and prostate surgery are made to improve the condition of patients but may have side effects and unexpected consequences to consider with your doctor

We can only hope that medications shrink prostate tumor cells. But it depends mainly on tumor growth and how aggressive the cancer is.

Medications also come with adverse effects. That is why doctors need to assess their patients health carefully.

If youre not exploring other natural ways of treating cancer, youre pretty much limited to conventional medicine.

We have probably heard about their side effects. They are often the last choice in patients who cannot find significant improvement elsewhere, but they are still dangerous and doctors need to ponder many options and procedures to give the best options to their patients

Summary Of The Evidence For Cannabis And Cannabinoids

To assist readers in evaluating the results of human studies of integrative, alternative, and complementary therapies for people with cancer, the strength of the evidence associated with each type of treatment is provided whenever possible. To qualify for a level of evidence analysis, a study must:

Separate levels of evidence scores are assigned to qualifying human studies on the basis of statistical strength of the study design and scientific strength of the treatment outcomes measured. The resulting two scores are then combined to produce an overall score. An overall level of evidence score cannot be assigned to cannabinoids because there has been insufficient clinical research. For an explanation of possible scores and additional information about levels of evidence analysis of Complementary and Alternative Medicine treatments for people with cancer, refer to Levels of Evidence for Human Studies of Integrative, Alternative, and Complementary Therapies.

Using Cannabis In Prostate Cancer Patients

In our hospitals daily practice we notice the popular use of cannabis oil in prostate cancer patients. As a nursing specialist for urology, I have even met patients who are so convinced of the curative benefits of cannabis oil in treating prostate cancer that they replace standard treatment with the use of cannabis oil.

These patients include those who have localised prostate cancer where active surveillance is followed, those with biochemical recurrence after treatment, and patients with metastatic PCa. I have always wondered whether cannabis oil could indeed be a cure for prostate cancer. Unfortunately, I do not see in practice the desired beneficial effect and the PSA values continue to rise. To find some answers, I did a search in scientific literature.

Cannabis, a very easy plant to grow, has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties. The oldest known document about cannabis use originates from the Chinese emperor Shen Nung in 2727 B.C. It suggested that cannabis has a neuron-protective effect. The Egyptians used cannabis to treat glaucoma and as an anti-inflammatory agent . Cannabis was even used in obstetrics and the mixture was applied in the vagina to cool the uterus. In the Old Testament, there is also an account of God instructing Moses to make a holy anointing olive oil-based Kaneh Bosm.

The Current State Of Cannabinoids And Prostate Cancer

CANNABIS OIL CURES CANCER

With such promising research evidence that cannabinoids are destructive to prostate cancer cells, what is happening with actual prostate cancer patients? Not much, according to a prostate.net blog:

There are many stories of people who have used cannabis oil to shrink prostate cancer tumors, and many of the people had success combining the oil with traditional therapies to fight their cancer. The problem with getting hard data and studies is that United States laws make it challenging for clinical studies on the marijuana plant to take place. Plus, there seems to be a lack of funding for the research. The studies that have taken place tend to focus on symptoms rather than the efficacy of the cannabis oil to shrink cancer tumors.

Yet the research teams who have published their results with laboratory experiments, both in lab containers and animal studies, are clearly calling for clinical trials with patients. They point out that non-THC cannabinoids demonstrate properties that keep the cells from proliferating, spreading, building their own blood supply, and taking up androgens . In addition, the De Petrocellis study found that under certain conditions, cannabinoids had a synergistic effect with chemotherapy or hormone therapy . Such features conjure visions of creative directions in prostate cancer treatment.

Laboratory Testing Of Cannabinoids Effectiveness Against Cancer

Laboratory experiments using mice have shown promising results.

In experiments with mice given very high doses of purified THC seemed to indicate a lower risk of developing cancer, and there has been some research suggesting that endocannabinoids can suppress tumour growth.

Sativex marketed by G.W. Pharmaceuticals contains only THC and CBD extracted from cannabis plants and this failed an exhaustive cancer trial using human test subjects, however this comes as no surprise because they have isolated only 2 unique cannabinoids and ignored the symbiotic effect of the other 110 cannabinoids contained in oil made from the cannabis plants. Full spectrum cannabis oil is far more effective.

The 90 day cancer treatment protocol cure claim can mislead people into misunderstanding how long they will require cannabis oil. It is possible to source medical grade cannabis oil, however, this will be a long term commitment as a lower maintenance dose will be required for at least 5 years after the initial treatment.

The sensible solution is to grow and produce your own RSO cannabis oil medicine. There is free information regarding all aspects of cannabis cultivation and RSO cannabis oil available here on this website. It is recommended that anyone wishing to use cannabis oil explores this possibility, however, we appreciate that this is not always possible.

Studies On Cancer And Cbd Oil

Many studies investigating the relationship between CBD and cancer involved mice or human cells in the lab. Thus, the research is still in the beginning stages, and more studies specific to people with cancer are needed before conclusive claims can be made. Ongoing research looking at CBD and cancer is primarily focused on two categories. Firstly, whether CBD can slow or even stop cancer growth, and secondly, whether CBD can relieve some of the side effects of cancer and cancer treatment, such as pain, nausea, and anxiety.

Cannabinoids have the potential to be used as an anti-inflammatory for skin conditions, with possible anti-cancer effects. Skin inflammation often leads to an increased risk of skin cancer due to increased pro-inflammatory cytokines and activation cascades, amongst other factors. Studies have confirmed this by showing inflammatory cytokines, proteases, and chemokines to be involved in the survival and invasion of skin cancer cells. Cannabinoids have been shown to combat this and produce anti-inflammatory effects, acting as protective agents in neuroinflammatory disorders, making them an excellent candidate for skin cancer treatment.

A 2014 study looked at experimental models of colon cancer in vivo and suggested that CBD may inhibit colorectal cancer cell proliferation, and it had no effect on healthy cells. Similarly, a 2019 study showed CBD to induce apoptosis by regulating various anti- and pro-apoptotic proteins, decreasing overall tumor volume.

Cannabis: A Weapon Against Prostate Cancer

Medical marijuana is slowly becoming accepted as a treatment for prostate cancer.

Its scary to think about prostate cancer because we are at more risk.

Prostate cancer is so prevalent.

Its estimated that 1 in 39 men will die of it. According to the American Cancer Society, there will be 174,650 new cases of prostate cancer. And 31,620 men will die from it.

The figures are astounding. Prostate cancer is now the third leading cause of death.

Its not long before it will be as deadly as lung cancer and colon cancer. The chances of successful treatment are higher if its detected early. But this is not easy. Symptoms of prostate cancer are difficult to identify.

Q Can Cannabis Help Cure Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer patient symptom free after using Cannabis Oil

At the moment, we dont know if cannabis can help treat prostate cancer. Some studies have looked at the effect of chemicals in cannabis, called cannabinoids, on prostate cancer cells. There are two main cannabinoids that have been investigated THC and CBD . The studies found that cannabinoids may stop prostate cancer cells from growing and dividing, cause prostate cancer cells to die, and stop prostate cancer cells from invading other tissues and spreading.

But these studies have only looked at prostate cancer cells grown in laboratories or in mice. Theres a long way to go in understanding whether there might be similar effects in patients. Cells can behave very differently in humans, so we need clinical trials in humans to see if cannabinoids could be used to treat prostate cancer. We also dont yet understand the mechanism by which the cannabinoids prevent prostate cancer cells from growing or dividing either.

Also, cannabinoids can have side effects that are unpleasant or even harmful. Its important to remember that the cannabinoids used in studies are made in a laboratory and are only one of many chemicals that are found in cannabis. Street-bought cannabis contains chemicals that can cause you to hallucinate and could harm your mental health.

At the moment, we dont know if cannabis can help to treat prostate cancer.

Prostate Cancer Facts And Statistics

  • Ninety-nine percent of prostate cancers are adenocarcinomas, or cancers that form in the bodys gland cells.
  • For men, prostate cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death.
  • Despite that number, people with prostate cancer have a high survival rate. They have a 99 percent chance of surviving after five years, a 98 percent of surviving after 10 years and a 96 percent chance of surviving after 15 years.
  • One in seven men will receive a prostate cancer diagnosis in his lifetime.
  • Having a first-degree relative with prostate cancer more than doubles your risk of getting it yourself.
  • People with African ancestry are more likely to get prostate cancer than people of other races.

What Does The Research Say

Research has found that cannabinoids can:

  • cause a cell to die
  • stop cells from dividing
  • stop cells from developing new blood vessels.

But it has also found that cannabinoids can:

  • damage important blood vessels
  • in some situations, encourage cancer cells to grow
  • make the immune system less effective the immune system fights diseases such as cancer.

It is possible that cannabis may have an effect in treating some types of cancer. But it may make other types of cancer grow or spread more quickly.

Research has looked at how using cannabis may affect the risk of developing cancer. This has produced different results. Some studies show that using cannabis may help reduce the risk of developing cancer. But there are also studies that show it increases the risk of cancer.

Because of these mixed results, experts feel that there needs to be more research into the chemicals found in cannabis and their possible benefits.

Many types of cannabis oil are sold online. CBD oil is also sold in some shops, such as health food shops.

Cannabis oil can contain different amounts of THC and CBD.

CBD oil in its pure form does not contain THC. This means it does not have any psychoactive effects . CBD oil is not a controlled substance under the Misuse of Drugs Act. It can be sold in the UK as a food supplement and if the seller does not make any claims about its medicinal properties.

But if you are thinking about using CBD oil, there are some important things to consider:

What Is The Key To An Effective Cancer Treatment

The key is a finding a substance which not only kills cancer but is also and most importantly non-toxic to the human body.

The most prominent cancer treatment used today is chemotherapy, it is such an aggressive and non-discriminatory killer that it attacks healthy cells alongside cancerous cells. It is interesting to learn that modern chemotherapy is actually the first-cousin of mustard gas.

Mustard gas, or sulphur mustard 2S, is a chemical agent that causes severe burning of the skin, eyes and respiratory tract. It can be absorbed into the body through inhalation, ingestion or by coming into contact with the skin or eyes.

The treatment of cancer with modern chemotherapy as we know today was an idea inspired by the observations made of the deceased victims of mustard gas.

The poison gas caused a significant reduction of white blood cell counts in the victims, which developed into the concept that this nerve agent could be used to kill other types of cells which divide and multiply quickly, like cancer cells.

Professor Manuel Guzman has conducted the only phase I clinical trial known of which used THC to treat cancer. Although the trial lacked a control group he concluded, the results obtained suggested that some patients responded -at least partially- to THC treatment in terms of decreased tumour growth rate, as evaluated by imaging and biomarker analyses.

Thc Vs Cbd: Whats The Difference

Cbd Oil Prostate » CBD Oil Treatments

Cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol are two natural compounds found in cannabis plants. CBD is found in extractions from the hemp plant, while THC is the main psychoactive compound that makes you experience a high.

It is usually consumed by smoking marijuana. Its also available in oils, edibles, tinctures, capsules, and more. THC binds with the cannabinoid 1 in the brain.

The effects of THC produce a high or sense of euphoria. There have been many debates about whether cannabis should be legalized and medical cannabis containing high levels of THC has been made legal in some states. A Doctor needs to prescribe it.

CBD helps with other various conditions, such as:

  • Seizures
  • Anxiety

Buying Cannabis Products Online

Buying cannabis products online can be risky. As they are not regulated, it is often difficult to known the quality and what they contain. In 2017, a researcher tested 84 CBD products sold online. The results showed that:

  • about 1 in 4 contained less CBD than stated on the label
  • almost half contained more CBD than stated on the label
  • more than 1 in 5 contained THC.

How Cannabis Affects Prostate Cancer Cells

Research shows that prostate cancer cells have higher levels of expression of both CB1 and CB2 receptors than normal cells. To put it another way, the cancer cells have a greater affinity for cannabinoids than normal cells. Laboratory studies have demonstrated that when the cells are treated with a specific cannabinoids, three consequences occur:

  • In general, the cells became less viable and more prone to apoptosis , and
  • Androgen receptor activity on the cancer cell surfaces decreased
  • Two cannabinoids, THC and CBD, discourage the formation of tumor blood vessels needed by prostate cancer tumors to nourish themselves.
  • A very extensive study was conducted by De Petrocellis et al. using both prostate cancer cells in lab containers and prostate cancer tumor cells implanted in mice. Non-THC cannabinoids were thus tested for their biochemical effects on individual cells as well as actual tumor behavior in live animals. The overall results were encouraging, with the authors suggesting that non-THC cannabinoids, and CBD in particular, retard proliferation and cause apoptosis of PCC via a combination of cannabinoid receptor-independent, cellular and molecular mechanisms.

Patterns Of Cannabis Use Among Cancer Patients

A cross-sectional survey of cancer patients seen at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance was conducted over a 6-week period between 2015 and 2016. In Washington State, Cannabis was legalized for medicinal use in 1998 and for recreational use in 2012. Of the 2,737 possible participants, 936 completed the anonymous questionnaire. Twenty-four percent of patients considered themselves active Cannabis users. Similar numbers of patients inhaled or used edibles , with dual use being common. Nonmutually exclusive reasons for Cannabis use were physical symptoms , neuropsychiatric symptoms , recreational use/enjoyment , and treatment of cancer . The physical symptoms most commonly cited were pain, nausea, and loss of appetite. The majority of patients stated that they would prefer to obtain information about Cannabis from their cancer team, but less than 15% reported receiving information from their cancer physician or nurse.

Data from 2,970 Israeli cancer patients who used government-issued Cannabis were collected over a 6-month period to assess for improvement in baseline symptoms. The most improved symptoms from baseline include the following:
