I had GL surgery four days ago and would appreciate feedback regarding the recovery process from those that have also undergone this procedure. I currently void every 30 to 60 minutes at night and every 30 to 60 minutes during the day. My flow is a stream for a few seconds then dribbles for maybe 30 seconds. Is this pretty typical? After the surgery I was drinking 1 1/2 liters of water per day but I may reduce this because I am not convinced my bladder is emptying fully. What do you think about this? When I void, it really burns at first and often I will get bladder spasms as well. Do you think the pain is radiated pain from where the prostate was vaporized? Do you think I will see improvement with these symptoms on a daily basis or weekly basis over the next month or so?

It is the eight day post laser turp surgery for me. I felt like posting after reading ironwolfs post above. His post left me with tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. His description of his post surgery experiences are very similar to mine.

My surgery was on Thursday morning. Just prior to surgery I mentioned having a pain in my chest, they immediately did a EKG and it was fine. I awoke from surgery to a painful burning feeling like I needed to pee very bad. A little while later the pain in my chest returned and they did another EKG. Again it was ok , Im 53 in good shape with no history of heart problems.

All this time they have big bags of saline flushing out my bladder , the outflow looked like watermelon juice. The plan was to go home that afternoon, but since I mentioned the gas, they decided to keep me overnight. This may have been a good thing because I was flushed until discharged at 3:00PM the next day. My outflow looked normal by then.

Did I mention catheters are a major pain? Not only do they make you feel like you need to pee all the time, but if you get morning wood like I do, well let me just advise you to keep some ice water and a rag close by.

The flow was slowly getting better but still with the painful burning sensation and continued like that until this morning. This has been the best morning so far. Pretty good flow and the burning is almost gone! YEAH!!!

I Had Laser Prostate surgery on Dec 13 and the first week was pretty rough. Pain, nausea, vomiting and could not pee at all after the catheter was removed the first time Had to get another cath in for a couple of days. Had burning pain for 17 days. The first day i could pee, I went 17 times in 18 hours. I still have frequency, but every day is better now. Almost no pain or burning. I think everyone’s experience is different. They say it will get better in time. Hope this helps. Had no problem getting back night/morning erections. Even got one with the catheter in. That was rather bizarre. That can be a side effect: Impotence.

PVP two years ago. Outpatient. Excellent results. Quite painless, some blood in urine for a few days as expected. No catheters or Foley bags for me for the last two years. Normal urination for TWO years and counting. Considering how many posts are showing depressingly negative results, I hesitate to post one so positive since it might result in more folks having negative post op experience. Depends on the surgeon, I suppose.

What Is Greenlight Laser Therapy

GreenLight Laser Therapy is a procedure performed with a small fiber that is inserted into the urethra through a cystoscope. The fiber delivers high powered laser energy which quickly heats up the prostate tissue, causing the tissue to vaporize. The process is continued until all the enlarged prostate tissue had been removed. Natural urine flow is rapidly restored and urinary symptoms are quickly relieved in most patients.

Recovery After The Procedure

After, the patient is observed in the recovery area and can be typically discharged on the same day or within hours from the procedure. For patients that had severe symptoms or had prior bladder damage, catheterization for an extended period may be required, and they may need to stay longer or perhaps overnight.

Generally mild discomfort including slight burning with urination, frequency, or the sudden urge to urinate can occur. The GreenLight Laser is used in the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia , commonly known as enlargement of the Prostate. GreenLight laser treatment is a therapy that evaporates prostatic tissue which is blocking the outlet of the bladder. It is performed under anesthesia by placing a telescope into the urethra up to the level of the prostate.
